ILS Rocks ITBS Assessment Tests

When you are in the top 4% of academic achievement in the country, it is hard to improve. But with its 2009/2010  Iowa Tests of Basic Skills  (ITBS) assessment tests, Immanuel Lutheran School has done just that. Our test results this year moved us into to the top 2.8% of academic achievement in the country! Each grade level that was tested ranked in the top 5% of schools nationwide, and our composite score (used to compare schools) was an astounding 97.2!

Students at Immanuel take the tests three-fifths of the way through the year (February). Thus, the second-graders were at grade-level equivalent of 2.6 when taking the test, third-graders were at 3.6, etc. The results are shown in relation to the students grade level. Scoring 1.0 above grade level implies that your test results are equivalent to the average student in the next higher grade level. As you can see from the table below, Immanuel students' academic advantage over students nationwide grows wider as they progress from second grade through eighth grade. The implication? The longer your child is at ILS, the wider the academic advantage your child has over other students the same age.

Grade  Avg. Grade Equivalent  Above Grade Level School-to-School Percentile
2009/2010 ITBS Assessment Results
2nd 3.6 1.0 98
3rd 4.6 1.0 95
4th 6.4 1.8 97
5th 8.8 3.2 99
6th 9.0 2.4 97
7th 10.9 3.3 97
8th 13.0+ 4.4+ 98

The Average Grade Equivalent is a score that describes the results of an average student in a particular grade (i.e., a student at the 50th percentile).  The assessment results show that our sixth graders this year had cumulative test results equivalent to the average student entering high school.

The School to School Percentile compares our ITBS results to the results from other schools.   Average results would place a school at the 50% percentile. The best possible score is the 99th percentile, indicating results that are better than 99% of all others being tested. Our fifth grade results earned the best possible result, the 99th percentile (top 1% nationwide). All of our classes placed in the top 5% nationwide.

Congratulations to all of our ILS students for this terrific achievement!
