Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Immanuel Lutheran School different from other Christian schools?
Immanuel Lutheran School takes a distinctly Christian approach to education. Teachers integrate biblical teaching throughout the entire school day, not just during designated Bible classes. Students participate in weekly chapel services, daily Bible study, and regular conversations about God's provision and love. The school teaches the Bible as the infallible, inerrant, and fully-inspired word of God, with a focus on the belief that Christ alone saves us from our sins by faith through grace. More than 95% of students come from non-Lutheran backgrounds, creating a welcoming environment for families from diverse faith traditions.
Do you welcome families who aren't Lutheran?
Absolutely! The vast majority of students do not have a Lutheran faith background. Families appreciate the school's commitment to biblical teaching while respecting the diversity of Christian traditions represented in the student body.
What grade levels does Immanuel Lutheran School serve?
The school offers programs for children from toddlers through high school. Preschool classes serve children ages 3-5 with Terrific 3's, Fantastic 4's, and Fabulous 5's programs. Elementary and middle school include kindergarten through 8th grade. High school operates on a hybrid model with required in-person sessions on Wednesdays. Toddler care and extended full day childcare programs are also available.
What are the class sizes like?
Immanuel maintains smaller class sizes intentionally. This allows teachers to know students on a personal level, which creates opportunities for stronger relationships and more focused instruction. Smaller classes contribute to the close-knit community atmosphere and help students succeed academically with individualized attention.
How much does tuition cost?
Tuition varies by grade level and program. Families can request detailed tuition information through the online form, which delivers specifics within 10 minutes. The school partners with donors and scholarship agencies to make Christian education accessible across the economic spectrum. Admissions decisions are made independently from tuition assistance considerations, ensuring every student receives fair evaluation.
Is financial assistance available?
Yes, tuition assistance is available through need-based aid at Immanuel (K-8 students) and ACE Scholarships (K-12 students). The RaiseRight gift card fundraising program can also help offset tuition costs. Note that toddler care, childcare, preschool, and summer camp do not qualify for need-based aid.
What curriculum does the school use?
Immanuel offers classically inspired academics. The research-based curricula help students learn effectively while fostering wisdom, critical thinking, collaboration, and confidence in their beliefs. Instruction is differentiated to meet diverse strengths and needs and includes Bible, technology, music, art, and PE alongside core academics for elementary and middle school students.
How does the preschool program work?
Three distinct preschool classes serve different age groups, each designed to meet children where they are developmentally.
The preschool classes include:
- Terrific 3's meets two days per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:15–11:00 a.m., focusing on socialization and fine motor skill development
- Fantastic 4's meets three days per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:15–11:00 a.m., introducing shapes, numbers, and alphabet concepts
- Fabulous 5's meets four days per week with classes from 12:30–3:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and 11:45 a.m.–2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, offering more in-depth activities and hands-on experiences
What is the youngest age for preschool enrollment?
The youngest age for preschool enrollment is 3 years old for the Terrific 3's class. Children must be 3 years old prior to September 15th to be eligible for this program. The same September 15th age cutoff applies to all preschool classes– children must be 4 years old by that date for Fantastic 4's and 5 years old for Fabulous 5's.
However, full day licensed childcare with a developmental curriculum is available beginning at 2 and a half.
Can I schedule a visit before enrolling my child?
Yes. Immanuel welcomes prospective families to schedule a visit before enrolling. Visits allow you to tour the campus, observe classrooms, and speak with administration and teachers to determine if the school is the right fit for your child. Contact the office to arrange a convenient time.
What safety measures are in place?
The school enforces strict safety protocols, including locked doors with visitor check-in, staff with walkie-talkies, certified First Aid/CPR faculty, regular fire/lockdown/tornado drills, and ballistic-coated lower-level windows and doors.
Do you offer before and after school care?
Childcare is available from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with limited availability on most school holidays. The program serves enrolled students from preschool through eighth grade whose parents' work schedules extend beyond regular school hours. Families should contact the school office for specific information about holiday and half-day availability.
What is the enrollment process?
Enrollment begins with completing an inquiry form and scheduling a visit. After visiting campus, families submit an application along with required documents including records from previous schools, physician reports, and emergency information. Students entering 1st through 8th grade complete a one-on-one assessment with their potential teacher, typically lasting 25-35 minutes. The admissions committee reviews applications and makes decisions independently from tuition assistance considerations.
Is there a dress code?
The dress code promotes a neat, modest, and respectful appearance reflecting the school’s Christian values. Guidelines include clean, in-good-taste clothing; fingertip-length shorts/skirts; covered torsos; non-marking shoes; no inappropriate slogans; modest hair, makeup, and jewelry; and no costumes or pajamas except on designated spirit days. Parents, students, and teachers share enforcement responsibility.
How does faith integration happen throughout the day?
Teachers look for opportunities to discuss God's law and Gospel throughout the entire school day. All students participate in weekly chapel services. Chapel offerings support monthly projects like Life Choices Pregnancy Center, House of Neighborly Service, and Samaritan's Purse. Students write thank you notes to acknowledge special service to the school. Classes collect gifts for needy Loveland-area families at Christmas and prepare shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, sharing Jesus' love with children worldwide.
What are the required on-campus days for high school students?
High school students are required to be on campus every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This time includes chapel services, meaningful discussion for faith formation, and required check-in. Students develop Christian community through these weekly gatherings while maintaining flexibility in their course schedules throughout the rest of the week.
What additional support is available for high school students?
The school offers multiple support options for hybrid learners, including The Atrium for focused coursework, optional Wednesday science labs, fee-based Content Coaching on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and year-long in-person music electives. Families can select the level of support that fits their students’ needs.
Why did Immanuel create this hybrid high school model?
Life is busy, and family calendars overflow with activities and events. Just as the modern workplace has adapted to new models, Immanuel recognized that the high school experience can adapt as well. The hybrid model provides excellent academics in a Christian community while giving families more flexibility. Students become life-long learners confident in their vocation to impact the world for Jesus Christ.
What is Genesis Virtual Academy?
Genesis Virtual Academy serves as Immanuel's academic partner, providing the virtual course content and structure. This partnership allows students to access challenging, high-quality curriculum while receiving support from Christian teachers who are invested in their success. The combination of Genesis Virtual Academy's academic excellence and Immanuel's faith formation creates a complete educational experience.
How does faith formation happen in the hybrid model?
Faith formation remains central to the high school experience. Along with Christian teachers in the Genesis Virtual Academy courses, the required Wednesday gatherings begin with chapel services, followed by meaningful discussions that help students develop their faith and build Christian community.
Does the school offer sports programs?
Yes, Immanuel Lutheran School offers interscholastic athletics for students in 5th through 8th grade. The athletics program gives glory to God by equipping students with the tools to mature into servant-leaders, embrace their gifts, and develop a team-first mindset. God has given each student many gifts, and the athletics program focuses on developing those gifts by challenging students to be their best every day.
Sports offered vary by student interest, but often include:
- Winter: 5th-8th Grade Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, and Girls Volleyball
- Spring: 5th-8th Grade Coed Track
What is the philosophy behind the athletics program?
The athletics mission centers on giving glory to God by equipping students to become servant-leaders. The program believes in developing each student's God-given gifts by challenging them to be their best every day, modeling a servant-leader attitude in competition, and sharing each other's joy and sorrow within the team atmosphere. Student athletes strive to become lights not only in competition but also in the community. Athletes, parents, and coaches model Christ-like attitudes, serve as Christian examples of fair play and good sportsmanship, and emphasize the glory of God over the glory of self and school.
Can parents get involved with athletics?
Absolutely! The ILS Booster Club supports Immanuel's athletics program and is comprised of an energetic group of volunteers who are passionate about Crusader spirit. Volunteers operate the concession stand at home games for volleyball and basketball, facilitate the ordering of school spirit wear, and encourage school pride.
